Ultimate Jungle Experience Winter '25

The Ultimate Jungle Experience : A 12-Week Hands-On Journey will begin class on Wednesday, January 22nd, and continue weekly through May 2nd. There are 3 weeks during the course that we will be at Flower shows, so there will be no class held on those weeks.

Introduction to Houseplants: Classroom

-An overview of houseplant varieties

-Understanding plant biology and growth cycles

-Essential tools and tips for plant care

Week 2 : 1/28/25 - 1/30/25

Plant Identification Part 1: Classroom

-Learning to identify common houseplants and their genus

-Identifying species vs hybrids and cultivars

-Exploring plant families and their characteristics

Week 3 : 2/5/25 - 2/7/25

Plant Identification Part 2: Jungle Lab

-A deeper dive in to plant families and their characteristics

-Interactive Identification Exercises

Week 4 : 2/12/25 - 2/14/25

Propagation Basics: Classroom

-Understanding propagation methods (Cuttings, division, etc.)

-Step-by-step propagation techniques

-Hands-On practice with different plants

Week 5 : 2/26/25 - 2/28/25

Advanced Propagation Techniques and Cutting Follow-up : Classroom & Jungle Lab

-Take-home cutting follow-up

-Sharing Successes and challenges

-Experimenting with propagation in groups - Jungle Lab

Week 6 : 3/5/25 - 3/7/25

Watering Techniques and Soil and Fertilization : Classroom

-Techniques and importance of proper and effective watering

-Discussion on soil for different plants and how watering effects them

-Understanding Fertilization and proper plant nutrition

-Team Assignment

Week 7 : 3/19/25 - 3/21/25

Pest and Disease Management : Classroom

- Identifying common pests and diseases
- Organic and chemical control methods
- Preventative measures for healthy plants

Week 8 : 3/26/25 - 3/28/25

Repotting : Jungle Lab

-When, why and how - repotting step by step

-Hands-on repotting on an assortment of plants

-Recognizing signs of stress or disease

Week 9 : 4/2/25 - 4/4/25

Seasonal Change - Care and Challenges : Classroom

-Preparing plants for seasonal changes

-Common problems, diagnosing issues and implementing solutions

-Open forum Q&A discussion on tips and tricks

Week 10: 4/9/25 - 4/11/25

Hands-On Lab Work Day - Jungle Lab

-Cuttings, repotting, plant ID

-Hands-on activities in the Lab
