Nepenthes zakriana, previously grouped under Nepenthes fusca ‘Sarawak’, has been taxonomically redefined to recognize distinct morphological differences. This species specifically identifies the form found in Sabah, separated from the Sarawak counterpart now known as Nepenthes dactylifera. This distinction clarifies their unique botanical traits, aiding experts and collectors in accurate identification and conservation efforts within Borneo’s diverse Nepenthes genus.
Nepenthes zakriana, native to Sabah, thrives in conditions that mimic its natural tropical montane habitat. Provide bright, indirect light and maintain high humidity levels around 70-90%. Use well-draining, acidic soil mixes such as sphagnum moss combined with perlite or orchid bark to ensure proper aeration. Keep temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C) during the day and allow a slight drop at night. Water with pure, mineral-free water to avoid root damage and avoid stagnant moisture. Regular feeding with diluted insect prey or balanced fertilizer supports growth, while good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues.
