Elevate your indoor plant collection with Caladium 'Pretty Pink,' a sophisticated tropical specimen originating from the humid understory of South American rainforests. This cultivar showcases distinctive heart-shaped leaves featuring rose-pink coloration with ivory veining and darker pink margins—a striking focal point for any interior space.

Caladiums belong to the Araceae family and have been cultivated for centuries, prized by horticulturists for their ornamental foliage. Native to regions spanning Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela, these plants evolved in warm, sheltered forest environments with filtered light and consistent moisture. Optimal growth occurs under bright, indirect illumination. East or west-facing exposures provide ideal conditions, while south-facing placements require sheer curtaining to prevent leaf bleaching. Insufficient light results in smaller leaves and diminished pigmentation; conversely, excessive direct sun fades the delicate pink tones.  Maintain evenly moist—not saturated—soil throughout the active growing season. Employ well-draining potting media rich in organic matter. Water when the top inch becomes dry to the touch. Overwatering invites root rot; underwatering causes leaf wilting and dormancy.  Sustain temperatures between 65-75°F and relative humidity above 60%. Misting, humidifiers, or pebble trays effectively elevate ambient moisture. Caladiums are sensitive to cold; temperatures below 60°F trigger dormancy and potential tuber damage. Apply balanced, water-soluble fertilizer monthly during spring and summer growth phases. As autumn approaches, gradually reduce watering as the plant naturally enters dormancy. Store dormant tubers in cool, dry conditions over winter, then repot in spring to reinitiate the growth cycle.
